About Me
Patricia Kilson is both an artist and journalist who has lived most of her life in Anchorage, Alaska. She traveled extensively in her youth, but upon reaching retirement age, she and her husband have settled in Missouri where they are creating their own farming lifestyle.
Her artistic endeavors are primarily in watercolor. Other mediums used include acrylics, pen and ink, charcoal, pastels and paper-cutting. Patty has taken numerous watercolor workshops to learn techniques and hone her skills, but has no formal education in art. She has taught beginning level watercolor classes and is the secretary for her local art guild.
She has written and published two books. Song of the Raven is a children’s book that tells the story of life and death in the Alaskan Wilderness and is illustrated by the author. Carina is the true story of her family’s adventure living onboard a 40-foot sailboat for three years while she was in her teens. The trip started in Florida where they learned to sail, travels through the Bahamas and Caribbean, across the Gulf of Mexico, through the Panama Canal and then up the west coast of Central and North America to finally end their travels in Alaska. Both books are available through Amazon.
Later she traveled to Japan, Iceland, Ireland, the United Kingdom and spent three months backpacking through much of Europe.
As a freelance journalist, Patty also writes stories about people involved in agriculture for the bi-monthly publication Ozarks Farm & Neighbor.
Patty loves to take pictures of her travels, farming, animals, insects and plants and uses those photos as reference for her art. Currently she is focusing on plants, animals and insects that can be found in her surroundings. She also loves old farmsteads and enjoys painting generational barns that have fallen into disrepair. The texture and colors of old barn wood, rusty tin, crumbled brick and the shadows created by broken boards are of particular interest.
Her faith in God and a keen interest in His creation is reflected in her art.
